Student Assessments to Measure Annual Growth

East Tampa Academy administers the NWEA MAP Growth assessment, a norm-reference assessment that measures a student’s math and reading skills. 

All students in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade are administered the NWEA MAP Growth assessment three times a year – fall, winter, and spring.

The results will help teachers better understand the needs of individual students to close learning gaps.

The results of the fall assessments will serve as the baseline to calculate student academic growth in reading and math for students in kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2.

Your child’s NWEA Map Growth assessment results will be included with their report card. Please see the chart above.

How often will my child take MAP Growth assessments?

East Tampa Academy students in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will take the MAP Growth assessment three times during the school year – fall, winter, and spring.

How long do MAP Growth tests take? 

Most students finish their test in about 50 minutes.

How does my child take the test?

The NWEA MAP Growth Assessment is a computer-based test. Your child’s teacher will be in the room during the entire assessment. There will be other adults in the room who will be available for the students.

What does MAP Growth measure? 

MAP Growth measures what students know and what they don’t know, regardless of their grade level. This helps teachers adjust their instruction for each student. It also measures growth over time, allowing you to track your student’s progress throughout the school year and across multiple years.

How will East Tampa Academy use MAP Growth scores?

Teachers will use the scores to inform instruction, personalize learning, and monitor the growth of individual students. The School Director and Governing Board will use the scores to see the performance and progress of each student, the progress by grade level, and the progress of the school.

Can MAP Growth tell me if my child is on grade level?

MAP Growth scores are just one data point teachers use to determine how a child is performing. MAP Growth measures if a student is performing similar to their peers. Please contact your child’s teacher to discuss any questions that you regarding your child’s performance.

What types of questions are on the NWEA MAP Growth assessment?  

The NWEA MAP Growth tests include multiple choice and drag-and-drop questions.  Parents can view a practice test to get an idea of what the questions look like.  See Student Resources in the NWEA Family Toolkit.

What information will I receive about my child’s test results?

East Tampa Academy will provide each parent with a report that is specific only to their child.

Parents are encouraged to discuss the results with their child’s teacher. The teacher can help you understand the results and what they represent as part of your child’s learning for the school year.
