Combining Personalize Learning with Extra Practice

Extra practice for students in reading and math are accessible both in the classroom and at home. Students enjoy learning through digital, adaptive and interactive programs that differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs of each student.

Each day, students have an opportunity to engage in extra practice through interactive learning in reading and math that supports the development of critical foundation skills.

Reading: Smarty Ants is an interactive research-based literacy program that includes skills instruction, independent practice and embedded assessments. The pace and skill level adjusts to each child’s individual ability and adapts as the student progresses.  Students are able to master complex phonics skills as they learn to decode and encode phonemes, words and stories.

DreamBox Math helps students gain deep understanding of math concepts while sparking math engagement and adjusting to each learner’s level. This evidence-based, interactive math program adapts to the student’s responses to meet them at the right level with personalized supports.

Smarty Ants and DreamBox are designed to complement classroom practice.

Parents will receive a unique username and password to access all the digital tools available to your child from home.

Performance-Based Learning

Performance-based learning is an approach to teaching and learning. Students participate in tasks or activities that are meaningful and engaging. Young students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they acquire and apply knowledge, practice skills and develop independent and collaborative work habits.

East Tampa Academy believes that students learn best by doing with hands-on, problem-solving activities that help all students build the confidence to excel. Our teachers incorporate Performance Based Learning Activities (PBLs) into the curriculum for a more enriching, stimulating learning experience.

Enrichment

Our enrichment programs in art and music enable students to explore a variety of learning experiences outside the traditional classroom and discover new talents.

Social and Emotional Learning

We believe children thrive when social-emotional learning (SEL) is an integral part of their education. East Tampa Academy has adopted the Caring School Community social and emotional learning curriculum to support our school wide philosophy of personal responsibility, empathy, and cooperation. Students engage in daily morning and closing circles, weekly class meetings, and Friday choice time that support structures and practices to develop social skills, character, and strong community.

Caring School Community is a comprehensive, researched-based CASEL SELect program.

Assessments

All students participate in the NWEA MAP Reading and Math assessments three times per year (fall, winter, and spring) to measure academic achievement and growth.
