STUDENT MASK GUIDELINES

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We understand that many parents remain concerned about the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Please be assured that we are taking every precaution to provide proper health and safety protocols. All teachers, staff, and visitors are required to wear a face mask.

On Friday, August 6, 2021, the Florida Department of Health adopted a new Emergency Rule, 64DER-21-12, which states “Students may wear masks or facial coverings as a mitigation measure; however, the school must allow for a parent or legal guardian to opt-out the student from wearing a face covering or mask.”

On Saturday, August 7, Superintendent of Schools Addison Davis announced that Hillsborough County Public School students would require face coverings but allow parents or guardians to opt their children out from wearing a face covering or mask. This requirement will continue until at least September 3rd as the Hillsborough County School District continues to work with their health partners at Tampa General Hospital/University of South Florida Health to monitor conditions in our community.

On Sunday, August 8, the East Tampa Academy Board of Directors voted to approve an emergency policy (Board Policy 2.18) that requires East Tampa Academy to follow the decision of the Hillsborough County Public Schools.

If you wish to opt-out your child from the face mask policy, please fill out the ETA Mask Opt Out Form for Students here. Only parents who do not want their child to wear a mask should complete and submit this form. Parents must fill out a form for each child. Please return the completed form to the front desk or to your child’s teacher in their daily folder.

Parents will be expected to have conversations with their children so that students will follow through with their parents’ expectations regarding wearing masks while at school.

During this time, parent and visitor access to the building will be limited.

We will continue to communicate with our families about this and all other critical issues related to the pandemic.

Sincerely,

Michelle Shimberg, Chair
East Tampa Academy Board of Directors
